Super Bowl LIII: An Overview

It's a wet Sunday afternoon for us in San Diego County and it is clear that it only helps fuel the already heavy tensions and anticipation that have been building up to this very afternoon. Sunday, February third, twenty-nineteen, the day that the fifty-third annual Super Bowl was held at Mercedez-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia.

Representing the American Football Conference, the New England Patriots, lead by Quarterback Tom Brady. And representing the National Football Conference, the Los Angeles Rams, lead by Quarterback Jared Goff.

Both teams have had very impressive seasons, and are highly promising. The Patriots are usually a high performing team, and they have definitely shown it this year with a total of 11 wins to 5 losses this season. The Rams, however, haven't always been a high performing team. This season they were able to pull off an astonishing 13 wins to 3 losses.

To the disappointment of many Southern Californians, the Patriots were able to win their sixth Super Bowl. They are now tied with the Pittsburgh Steelers for most Super Bowl wins of all time.

It is agreed amongst most fans that it was definitely not the most exciting Super Bowl of all time. However, those who paid careful attention noticed that both teams played rather phenomenally. A few mistakes ended up being the deciding factors of the game.

Many of our scholars were rooting for the Rams - a team local to Southern California. Sadly for them, this was a rough loss of 13 to 3. On Monday, murmurs of the game could be heard throughout campus.

It has been 24 years since California has had a Super Bowl winning team (the 49ers in 1995). A lot of hope was seen for this new team in California. However, they still show a lot of promise. Hopefully we can see them in another Super Bowl in the not-so-distant future.
