The Oceanside Sunset Market

Here in Escondido, there isn’t much to do on a normal weekday, but just a few cities over in Oceanside, there’s something called the Sunset Market every Thursday. There’s a reason they call it the Sunset Market; primarily because it starts at 5 PM. Although it may seem like some small Farmer’s Market, you’re completely wrong, It’s way better! There are shops, activities and food! The whole experience would leave you feeling ecstatic even if you’re just there with family, friends, or your pet dog. The whole thing is pet-friendly so you could bring along your furry friend! The locals have such a welcoming presence when you walk into the market. The shops come in different ranges from jewelry, hand soaps, and even clothing. Occasionally, they’ll have local authors come and sell their books. You could also buy regular items like silver rings, stitch made jackets, or even bamboo pillows. They also have a toy section so if you have any younger siblings then head on over to the toy tent. Besides shops the market withholds many different activities that aren’t just for kids!

The activities include many inflatable jumpy houses/crash courses, bungee jumping, and a mini petting zoo that consists of sheep, bunnies, chickens, and a mini-horse. Although the petting zoo comes every other week (1/25, 2/1, and 2/15 and so forth), when the petting zoo isn't there, a unique portrait artist is in the lot. If none of those interest you, then just down the street there’s a stage where many different bands play. Every week a different band plays so you’re going to have to brace yourself for the surprise of either a common pop song or an oldies hit. Either way you’re guaranteed to have a good time even if it’s just you, your friends, or your family, will never get bored. With all of this excitement you’d probably get hungry. In the market there are many food tents and places around to choose from! Although Jersey Mike’s or Alberto’s sound good, fast food isn’t the only good thing around the Sunset Market. Inside the market, there are multiple food tents; there’s even a row of food tents to walk down. As soon as you get near the market you know you are there because of the varying smells and aromas from different food tents. Whether it’s Filipino, Mexican, or even Polish food, it’s bound to leave your mouth watering. Most of the food tents are local meaning they’ll be very welcoming and joyful mostly because they like to see new people come by but it’s also a chance for them to get to meet people! “I feel like it’s a good bonding place to meet new people, even though I’m working behind in the kitchen” said Michael from Fresh Crispy Belgium Fries. Also if you’re vegan they haven't forgotten about you because they have a few Vegan-only food tents! With all of these great food opportunities you can always take your meal down to the beach. It’s only about 10 minutes away if you walk straight from the market to the pier.

The Sunset Market is only about 10 minutes away from the sandy shores of Oceanside beach. The beach is right down the street from the Sunset Market and Oceanside is known for its beach. Even though it may be somewhat chilly, it’ll be nice just to walk along the shore as the wind lightly nips at your nose. In Escondido, we don’t really get much windy weather so maybe a change would feel great! You could just walk in the sand with your friends or family and just enjoy the rest of your night before you have to end this tremendous adventure.

The Sunset Market is an exciting place that many people love to visit. Whether you’re a local or not you’ll always be welcomed and it’s always fun to just shop around in the little stores! The food is amazing and the people are just incredible! Not to mention that the Sunset Market is really close to the beach, it’ll be great for a late-night walk or just to go smell the fresh oceanic air. The Oceanside Sunset Market is truly remarkable.
